2013 Awards and Recognition

2013 Recognition:

  • In December, GT&O won two of Waters magazine’s 2013 American Financial Technology Awards: one for Best Infrastructure Initiative (the Sunrise self-service platform for managing cloud and enterprise applications) and one for Best IT Integration Initiative (the Merrill Lynch One™ investment advisory platform).

  • Bank of America was recognized by the 2013 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). This is the first time the bank has been added to both the World and North America indices of the DJSI.

  • Trade Pro, the online portal of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, was awarded “Best Use of IT in Wholesale/Transaction Banking” in the Banking Technology magazine 2013 Awards.

  • Bank of America was ranked as the number one Leading Brokerage Firm for Thematic Research by Thomson Reuters Extel and UKSIF in their 2013 SRI & Sustainability Survey. The bank was also ranked the No. 2 Leading Brokerage Firm for SRI & Sustainability Overall and No. 2 Leading Brokerage Firm for SRI Research.

  • On Nov. 18, the Award for Employee Engagement, sponsored by Oakleaf Partnership, went to MBNA at the Personnel Today Awards.

  • In October, Bank of America Merrill Lynch received top honors from The Banker magazine, being named Most Innovative Investment Bank of the Year 2013. The award recognizes the firm for providing innovative and creative solutions to meet complex client needs, as well as demonstrating growth in fees and market share. The firm also received the following four accolades from The Banker: Most Innovative Investment Bank from North America; Most Innovative in Bonds; Most Innovative in M&A; and Most Innovative in Climate Change & Sustainability.

  • Bank of America was honored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and a group of respected nongovernmental organizations for taking a leadership role in reducing carbon pollution and addressing climate change. They received recognition in the category of Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management (Goal Setting) because of the bank’s commitment to establishing and exceeding ambitious targets for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions.

  • In September, Bank of America was recognized by the CDP Global 500 Climate Change Report 2013 and the CDP S&P 500 Climate Change Report 2013 for its sustainability leadership and positive progress made on behalf of economic, environmental and social issues. 2013 marked the fourth consecutive year that Bank of America had been included in the Global 500 CPLI and the S&P 500 CPLI and CDLI.

  • MBNA became the first U.K. credit card company to achieve Quality in Credit Management (QICM) accreditation. The accreditation is granted by The Institute of Credit Management (ICM) to organizations that demonstrate excellence in credit management. The assessment process was completed over a number of months and covered six key areas of credit policy, including compliance, customer services, personal development, professional development, performance management, and stakeholder management.

  • In September, Bank of America Merrill Lynch received two awards from Euroweek magazine in its ECM 2013 awards: Best Capital Raise (ArcelorMittal) and Best Equity-Linked Deal (VW Mandatory).

  • Bank of America has been a member of the FTSE4Good Index since 2003. The launch of the FTSE4Good series in 2001 was in response to growing investor demand for Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) indices and products.

  • In September, Bank of America was included by the 2013 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The bank was one of 12 companies listed in the DJSI’s Diversified Financial Services and Capital Markets sector. Launched in 1999, the DJSI were the first global indices to track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. 2013 marked the first time that the bank has been added to both the World and North America indices of the DJSI. 

  • The financial services market research firm DALBAR recognized the Merrill Lynch Retirement Services’ Benefits OnLine®website and the U.S. Trust client statement for excellence in meeting client communication needs.

  • In the Climate Counts 2012-2013 Scorecard, Bank of America was listed as the Commercial Banking Sector Leader, and among the top 10 companies overall. Climate Counts in a nonprofit organization that rates corporations on their efforts towards mitigating climate change, in an effort to motivate deeper awareness among consumers.

  • Bank of America ranked first for Small Business Online Banking by Keynote Systems’ 2013 Small Business Scorecard in August. The bank had an overall score of 87 and was number one in three major categories, including Functionality, Ease of Use, and Privacy and Security. The scorecard is published annually and focuses on the online banking needs of U.S. small businesses under $2 million in revenue.

  • In July, Bank of America Merrill Lynch received the following six awards among Euromoney magazine’s Awards for Excellence 2013: Best Global Small and Medium-Size Enterprises (SME) Finance House; Best Cash Management House in North America (third consecutive year); Best Debt House in North America; Best Equity House in the United Kingdom; Best Investment Bank in Colombia; and Best Equity House in Korea.

  • In June, Bank of America was named a 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award recipient, the highest recognition given to companies for support of their employees who serve in the U.S. National Guard and Reserve. Freedom Award winners are recognized for their implementation of formal policies and informal initiatives that go above and beyond in assisting and encouraging National Guard and Reserve service.

  • Trade Finance honored BofAML with the “Best Trade Bank in the USA” award in the Trade Finance Awards for Excellence 2013, derived from a comprehensive poll surveying the market in recognition of the ongoing evolution of the bank’s offering to its expanding client base in the region. Trade Finance along with Global Trade Review also recognized BofAML in their respective “Deals of the Year” programs.

  • Merrill Lynch Wealth Management was named Advisory Solutions Firm of the Year at the 2013 Money Management Institute (MMI) Industry Leadership Awards. The award, which was announced during MMI’s annual convention in New York on April 23, 2013, recognized Merrill Lynch Wealth Management as the firm that best exemplified overall excellence, as well as being the most significant contributor to the long-term success and sustainability of the industry over the last year.

  • In March, the “Green IT” team won the 2013 IT Team of the Year Award from FStech, a financial services technology publication. In partnership with the My Environment program, the team helps employees in EMEA protect the environment.

  • Bank of America Merrill Lynch was recognized as a top affordable housing lender by Affordable Housing Finance magazine in March.

  • In March, The Asset magazine's Triple-A Transaction Banking Awards gave Bank of America top rankings in the following categories: Best Non-bank Financial Institutions Bank – Asia Pacific; Rising Star Treasury and Working Capital – China; Best in Treasury and Working Capital MNCs/LLCs – Korea; and Rising Star Treasury and Working Capital – Taiwan.

  • In February, Bank of America Merrill Lynch ranked No. 3 in Institutional Investor magazine’s 2013 All-Europe Research Published Leaders Table, No. 2 for Overall Research, and No. 2 for Pan-European Sectors.  The BofA Merrill Lynch Research team ranked No. 2 in Institutional Investor magazine’s 2013 All-Japan Survey, maintaining its position as one of the most respected departments in the region.  The ranking reflects the outstanding ability of Sales, Trading and Research to work together as a team.

  • In February, U.S. Trust was named Best Private Bank – Client Service at the annual Private Asset Management Awards. U.S. Trust was selected by an independent panel of industry experts, based on key criteria and performance indicators, including financial progress, growth, client satisfaction and product innovation.

  • Global Finance magazine listed Bank of America Merrill Lynch among the 2013 World’s Best Investment Banks, naming the company the Best Global Debt Bank (second consecutive year) and Best Investment Bank in Emerging Markets. The magazine also named BofA Merrill as repeat award-winner for Best Bank for Liquidity Management in North America, in addition to Best Treasury Management Systems & Service Provider of Treasury Analytics for CashPro Accelerate® and Best Trade Finance Bank - United States. BofA Merrill has been recognized for the third consecutive year as the Best Overall Bank for Cash Management in North America.

  • In January, J.D. Power and Associates recognized Merrill Edge® call centers for customer service excellence for a second consecutive year. Merrill Edge provides mass affluent customers access to professional investment guidance through Merrill Edge Financial Solutions Advisors™ in the Merrill Edge Advisory Center™ or in person at select banking centers and provides an online self-directed investing platform with robust tools and resources to help them make informed investment decisions.

  • On Jan. 9, MBNA was recognized in the Best Low Rate Credit Card category of the Moneynet Personal Finance Awards for its Everyday and Rate for Life credit cards.
