Record-setting cold and a snow-filled winter did not slow Chicago-area runners from registering for this year’s 35th Anniversary Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K, the world’s largest 8-kilometer road race, which closed today when the 40,000-participant capacity was reached. Bank of America has announced the donation of historic images from its corporate art collection to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. The donation, a collection of 61 black-and-white photographs by Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, features Daufuskie Island, a unique, national landmark off the South Carolina coast inhabited by a community whose distinctive language and culture remained strongly influenced by their African heritage.

Registration for the 2014 Bank of America Chicago Marathon opens today at noon Central Time at chicagomarathon.com. Registration will be conducted through a system of guaranteed entry options, as well as through a non-guaranteed entry lottery. U2 teamed up with (RED) and Bank of America for the fight against AIDS with a Super Bowl commercial which featured the band performing a new song, “Invisible.” With over 3 million free downloads on iTunes February 2-3, the song generated more than $3 million from Bank of America to support the work of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Through its Community Development Banking business, Bank of America Merrill Lynch provided more than $3.3 billion in loans, tax credit equity investments and other real estate development solutions in 2013. Those commitments were up more than 25 percent from 2012 lending and investing and will help create more than 13,600 affordable housing units.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon contributes an estimated $243.46 million in total business activity to the Chicago economy, according to a new economic impact report. The Bank of America Chicago Marathon will recognize John Nichols, president of the Chicago-based Disability Resource Group, Inc., as the third annual recipient of the Richard M. Daley and Maggie Daley Award. The award was established in 2010 to honor the Bank of America Chicago Marathon participant who raised the most funds for charity through the annual world-class event.
