Less than a year after beginning implementation of principal reduction and other consumer relief programs under the National Mortgage Settlement (NMS), Bank of America completed and approved assistance to about 320,000 customers totaling $29.2 billion in aggregate relief across all settlement programs through March 31.

Bank of America completed or approved nearly $30 billion in real and meaningful relief to more than 330,000 homeowners and offered life-of-loan interest rate reductions to more than 40,000 others in 2012 through programs of the National Mortgage Settlement (NMS). The bank reported its progress through December 31, 2012 in a quarterly report to the federal program monitor, who released the details today.

Bank of America today announced agreements with the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) to resolve outstanding and potential repurchase and certain other claims relating to the origination, sale and delivery of substantially all residential mortgage loans originated and sold directly to Fannie Mae from January 1, 2000 through December 31, 2008 by entities related to Countrywide Financial Corporation (legacy Countrywide) and Bank of America, National Association (BANA).

Bank of America completed or approved a total of $15.8 billion in consumer relief for about 164,000 homeowners as of September 30 through programs established under the National Mortgage Settlement. Quarterly progress reports from all five banks involved in the agreement with federal and state governments will be filed today with participating state attorneys general and the federal program monitor.

Bank of America has completed or approved more than $4.75 billion in principal reduction offers on first mortgages under terms of the National Mortgage Settlement in the five months since the settlement was approved by the court.

Adding to its foreclosure prevention initiatives, Bank of America has launched a nationwide program that offers delinquent mortgage customers increased assistance with relocation expenses – between $2,500 and $30,000 - at the completion of a qualifying short sale.
