CHARLOTTE - Bank of America today announced that Andrew Plepler has been named president, Bank of America Foundation.

Mr. Plepler will develop and manage relationships with national nonprofit organizations and create strategic partnerships with business leaders and foundations to strengthen corporate giving and expand the bank's leadership role in the community. He will also be responsible for managing the foundation's overall mission and coordinating its national focus with local market philanthropic efforts across Bank of America's coast-to-coast franchise. Plepler will join the bank July 21.

"Andrew brings rich experience in foundation strategy, business communications and community initiatives," said Janet Lamkin, Bank of America Public Affairs Executive. "By leveraging his knowledge and experience in community involvement, he will strengthen the already strong charitable giving programs at Bank of America. We look forward to his leadership in demonstrating to our customers, associates and communities that we have a higher standard in sustaining the lives of many while helping our neighborhoods prosper."

Plepler most recently served as senior vice president of Housing and Community Initiatives with the Fannie Mae Foundation. He oversaw three of the foundation's primary grant-making departments, as well as all five regional offices - Dallas, Philadelphia, Pasadena, Atlanta and Chicago. He supervised the Outreach and Education Department, including the foundation's personal finance program, and directed the foundation's community development efforts in Washington, DC, which accounts for a third of its overall grantmaking.

Before joining the Fannie Mae Foundation, Plepler practiced law as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Tax Division and served on Capitol Hill as counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

Plepler earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in government from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and a Jurist Doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, FL.

Plepler, his wife and three children will reside in Charlotte.
