Bruce R. Thompson is a member of Bank of America’s executive management and Global Banking and Markets leadership teams. Based in Dublin, Ireland, he is president of the bank’s operations across the European Union and Switzerland and is chief executive officer of Bank of America Merrill Lynch International DAC (BAMLI DAC), its primary European banking entity. Thompson also leads the newly formed Institutional Credit Exposure Management Group, with responsibility for overseeing large Global Corporate and Investment Banking and Global Commercial Banking credit commitments.
Prior to his current role, Thompson was chief financial officer at Bank of America (2011-2015) with responsibility for all finance functions, as well as Corporate Treasury, Investor Relations and Corporate Investments. Before that, he was chief risk officer for Bank of America (2010-2011), responsible for working with the company’s lines of business to identify and navigate credit, market and operational risk to support sustainable growth.
Thompson joined Bank of America as a managing director in 1996 and served in a variety of roles, including head of U.S. Leveraged Finance Debt Capital Markets, co-head of the Global Credit Products platform, and head of Global Leveraged Finance. In 2008, he was named head of Global Capital Markets, where he was responsible for Equity Capital Markets, Investment Grade Capital Markets, Leveraged Acquisition Finance, High Yield Capital Markets, Debt Advisory Services, Loan Capital Markets and Global Origination for Rates and Currencies.
Thompson graduated with honors from Allegheny College in 1986 and from the Darden School of Business, also with honors, in 1990. Thompson currently is a trustee of the Darden School Foundation at the University of Virginia, where he serves on the audit/finance committee. In addition, he is a member of the board of trustees of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., where he serves on the executive committee and the budget and finance committee.
