Bank of America Named Winner of the AnitaB.org 2018 Top Companies for Women Technologists Program
Bank of America has been named a winner of , earning the highest total score for a company with a technical workforce of over 10,000 employees. Known for its dedication to increasing the presence and contributions of women in technology, AnitaB.org presented the award as part of its annual Grace Hopper Celebration in Houston.
This is the second time Bank of America has been honored by AnitaB.org, the first occurring in 2014. As one of the leading companies in America focused on diversity and opportunity in technology-related fields for women, the company was recognized for creating a workplace committed to building a positive employee experience where women can thrive.
“At Bank of America, we work every day, and have worked for a long time, to move the needle on hiring and advancing women technologists,” said Cathy Bessant, chief operations and technology officer. “Women like Grace Hopper, Anita Borg and Katherine Johnson have shown us that women are great technologists. And yet, across every industry, we still need to improve the representation of women in the STEM disciplines.”
Bank of America has built an infrastructure and culture that allows women to succeed as great technologists and leaders. An example includes the Diverse Leadership Sponsorship Program which identifies the 100 talented women and diverse team members as part of the talent pipeline and assigns them an executive sponsor for ongoing support. Bank of America also provides technology training programs, such as GT&O University, to prepare team members from across the bank for future opportunities in the organization.
Bessant noted that diversity in technology is a business imperative considering the ubiquitous nature of its impact on our lives every day. “Greater diversity makes our team stronger and better able to serve our clients in every way. This award shows that our efforts are paying off, but more importantly, inspires us to do even more.” she said.
Our ongoing work to invest in women as they make meaningful contributions within our company and in our communities includes our focus on being a great place to work for our female employees, making the financial lives of our female clients and customers better and advancing the economic empowerment of women in communities around the world.
