The Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced that on Monday, October 21, it will begin accepting runner applications for the 2020 namesake event at chicagomarathon.com. Runners looking for inspiration to participate in the iconic event can catch the 42nd annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 13, 2019. A world-class elite field and runners from all 50 states and more than 100 countries will take over the streets of Chicago as they embark on a 26.2-mile tour of 29 of Chicago’s most dynamic and diverse neighborhoods.
“This weekend, the focus of the running world will shift to Chicago as we get ready to welcome one of the largest fields in event history,” said Carey Pinkowski, Bank of America Chicago Marathon executive race director. “We’re fortunate that interest in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon continues to grow every year. From the novice runner looking to make their debut to the veteran runner looking to capture another personal record, we’re ready to welcome you to the flat and fast streets of Chicago for another great racing experience in 2020.”
Registration for the Sunday, October 11, 2020 event will be conducted through a non-guaranteed entry drawing (starting on October 21) and a series of guaranteed entry applications (starting on October 28). Individuals interested in running on behalf of a charity can secure their spot in the first week of the non-guaranteed entry drawing.
Runners will have until Tuesday, December 3 to apply for either a guaranteed or non-guaranteed entry. The cost of an entry is $205 for United States residents and $230 for those residing outside of the United States.
Runners can qualify for an entry into the 2020 Bank of America Chicago Marathon through several guaranteed entry opportunities:
Runners who do not qualify for a guaranteed entry can apply for the non-guaranteed entry drawing. Names will be selected from the full pool of non-guaranteed entry applicants and runners will be notified of their selection status on Thursday, December 12.

In its 42nd year on Sunday, October 13, 2019, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon welcomes thousands of runners from more than 100 countries and all 50 states, including a world-class elite field, top regional and Masters runners, race veterans, debut marathoners and charity runners. The race’s iconic course takes runners through 29 vibrant neighborhoods on an architectural and cultural tour of Chicago. Annually, an estimated 1.7 million spectators line the streets cheering on more than 45,000 runners from the start line to the final stretch down Columbus Drive. As a result of the race’s national and international draw, the Chicago Marathon assists in raising millions of dollars for a variety of charitable causes while generating $378 million in annual economic impact to its host city. The 2019 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, a member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, will start and finish in Grant Park beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 13. In advance of the race, a two-day Abbott Health & Fitness Expo will be held at McCormick Place Convention Center on Friday, October 11, and Saturday, October 12.
