HOUSTON, TXHouston Food Bank has received a $700,000 grant from Bank of America to help fund the nonprofit’s new expansion facility.

The award is significant as it supports Houston Food Bank’s capital campaign to build a state-of-the-art facility in Northwest Houston that will provide critical services for neighbors at one access point. Breaking ground later this year, the new expansion facility is designed to transform the model of food assistance by addressing the root causes of food insecurity.

“This facility represents a fundamental shift in how we serve our community—moving from simply providing a meal today to building a foundation for a better life tomorrow,” said Brian Greene, president/CEO of Houston Food Bank. “The generous $700,000 grant from Bank of America aids in the creation of a space where neighbors can access not just nutritious food, but the health, legal, and educational resources they need to achieve long-term economic mobility. We are grateful for their contribution in making this new facility a reality.”

Building upon 25 years of support and the bank’s broader commitment to address hunger, Bank of America has provided more than $2.5 million in funds to Houston Food Bank. In November 2025, the Bank awarded Houston Food Bank $50,000 to support food insecurity during a critical time of need. Volunteers from the Bank have given more than 6100 hours of time since 2013.

"At Bank of America, we recognize that addressing food insecurity in Houston requires a holistic approach to economic mobility. Houston Food Bank’s new facility is the future of a transformational community, and we are honored to support this innovative effort,” said Hong Ogle, president, Bank of America Houston.  “We encourage fellow organizations, businesses, and community leaders to join us and bring this essential community hub to life — because the scale of this vision deserves the full strength of our community behind it.”

The new 310,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility will be situated on 52 acres of land in Northwest Houston, generously donated by Chevron. Located at the intersection of TX-249 and Ella Boulevard, this expansion will effectively double Houston Food Bank’s total operational footprint to 613,000 square-feet. The facility will be designed to be a one-stop resource for the community, offering a suite of integrated services including:

  • Health and Wellness: Dedicated spaces for community health clinics, dental services, and fitness programs.
  • Education and Workforce Development: Specialized centers for vocational training, financial literacy, and agricultural education.
  • Legal and Social Services: Access to legal aid services provided by third-party partners.
  • Community Engagement: A vibrant food court, community rooms, an urban garden, and sports courts designed to foster connection and resilience.

By 2035, Houston Food Bank expects the facility will allow it to double its annual food distribution from 150 million to 300 million pounds, ensuring that nearly 70% of that food is fresh produce. This strategic expansion is projected to enable the organization to increase the value of its community assistance from $250 million to $500 million per year.
